Summer lovin...in the form of cupcakes!!!

Summer beach themed cupcakes of course!
We celebrated this weekend with a new concept called a Progressive Pool Party...a couple of my neighbor gals hosted along with myself...Appetizers at one house, dinner at another, and dessert at the third and final house which was mine! Other neighbor guests brought sides to the second house which was dinner. The kids enjoyed swimming at each of the houses and it was super fun to see them pack up all wet and wrapped in their beach towels walking the neighborhood to the next house! The rule for the adults is that they had to at least make it into one pool! Very honored it was our house...the last stop on the pool road trip which was hanging in the spa. We also picked a vodka based summer cocktail to have available at each house. Great drinks like orange creamsicle, vodka tea, vodka lemonade, vodka cherry limeade, and watermelon vodka slushy. What a great night with a few neighbor friends!

We definitely need to do this again!!!

Shark fin (fondant) chocolate cupcakes / Strawberry beach cupcakes with umbrellas (drink paper umbrellas), beachballs (cherry gumball), beach chair (stick of gum), and blue and yellow sanding sugar for water and sand. I used a few graham cracker crumbs for sand as well but don't actually like the taste of it with my buttercream so opted to do more sanding sugar and less graham cracker.

April showers and lots of cakes!

It's been awhile since I have blogged about my baking adventures...but it's not because I have not baked in awhile. I just started a new job and finding the time to decorate cakes between the full time job, 5 year old and 10month old is easy. The blogging for some reason has been really hard!! So here is a month of review in photos....
These were tiny little cakes for Miss A's two teachers. Just a gesture for teacher appreciation week!
This was a special hot pink and zebra stripped cake for a beautiful little girl!

My first fondant/gumpaste person. This little gymnast wasn't half as cute as the original who was celebrating her 6th bday!

Must say this was also my first dolphin cake....

SOCK MONKEY! Not going to lie this was a fun cake to make! The stocking hat on top and the sock monkey are rice krispy wrapped in fondant. It was for a baby shower!

It has been a long and crazy month of baking and decorating! But so fun!! Promise not to get so behind next time!!

Weekend of 1st's!!

This weekend was a decorating showdown of cakes for two boys who turned 1!!! It is corny, I know, but to be a part of someone's first birthday is pretty special I think! One boy I am very close to along with his amazing family and two amazing older brothers. The second birthday boy I have never met, but to be a part of his life celebrating is still really special to me!!! So thank you to both families for trusting me with such a special job on such a special day!!
A sports theme 3 tier cake with a mini smash cake. For accuracy sake, the football has 8 laces and the baseball has well....not all 216 but pretty close!! haha.
I thought the baseball was going to be the hardest but really it was the basketball!!! Go figure! Chocolate chocolate for football, vanilla cake and white buttercream for baseball, and basketball was velvet cake and buttercream. Not only were the lines of basketball tricky but the red velvet is so darn moist and airy it cracked...:(
Primary color 1st birthday cake with a 10inch square bottom and 8inch round on top. Then the mini smash cake for the amazing handsome little birthday boy who is the third son of a dear friend of mine. She was gracious enough to bake the cakes and all I had to do was ice and decorate! SO FABULOUS!!

Added his name once we got to the party site!!! Fondant name, "1", stars and circles. The multi-color dots along the base of each tier for both cakes is buttercream. This cake is just such a happy cake!!

My dear friend has a spunky little boy who can melt your heart with a smile. He tries so hard all the time to be helpful but this little toddler sometimes doesn't even realize his own strength! He was helping me lift the cake out of the box and he lifted his corner a wee bit too high and the top almost slid right off! Gotta love this kid!!! A mom of all boys is truly the fastest species on the planet!!! haha!

Violet, high heels, and manly mustaches!!!

This weekend was a bake-off like no other!!! I had three different baking tasks for three very special people....
A 5 year Anniversary cake for a fabulous friend. I used violet tinted buttercream and used a template to imprint the patterns. Silver ball dragees, silver ribbon and a jewel accented "H" for their family name!
Girls and their shoes!!! One of my neighbors and friends celebrated her birthday last weekend but we were unable to join her. So we went bowling Saturday night for her birthday and I made her some special high heel shoe cupcakes. She pinned this on my pinterest and even went so far as to buy the cupcake book!!! At least she is a women who knows what she wants!! HA!

The toe of shoe is a cupcake of course, the sole of the shoe is a graham cracker dipped in melted chocolate wafers, and the heel is a Pepperidge Farm pirouette cookie. Too fun to make!!!

The birthday gal with her favorite yellow heel cupcakes!

Today was my fabulous husbands birthday. so we celebrated at my parents and long story short...we made it a "manly" birthday party. What better way to show your manhood then with a mustache!!

The birthday boy with his big "stache"!!! HAHAHA!

Cardboard cutout mustaches hot glued to popsicle sticks and atop 3 different cupcakes:  Vanilla, Chocolate and Red Velvet!

This was the template I printed out with the various mustaches!! hee hee....
